Hiermit laden wir Sie herzlich zur Filmpremiere des Stipendiaten RAVI SHEKHAR (Mumbai/Indien) ein. (Eintritt frei)
Sein Videoprojekt „US” wird am Sonntag, dem 16.9.2012 um 19 Uhr im Filmpalast Salzwedel uraufgeführt. 
Ravi Shekhar ist diesjähriger Christamaria-Meyer-Stipendiat des Fördervereins des Künstler- und Stipendiatenhauses das Altmarkkreises Salzwedel. Das Stipendium wurde von der KUNSTSTIFTUNG des Landes Sachsen-Anhalt finanziert.
Der indische Filmemacher lebt und arbeitet seit April diesen Jahres im Stipendiatenhaus des Altmarkkreises Salzwedel in der Hansestadt Salzwedel.

Ravi Shekhar schreibt über seine Arbeit:
„US” (der Film)
Ich existiere nicht allein. Ich bin nur ein Teil vieler Einflüsse. Stadt, Schule, Uni, Eltern, Freunde, Bücher, Filme, Musik, Kunst, Autoren, Literatur, Sprachen, Räume, Orte… Die Liste ist endlos. Dieser Experimentalfilm handelt von Bild- und Klangeinflüssen, die mein Leben seit Jahren bestimmen. Und er versammelt die Menschen und Einflüsse meiner Reisen und meines Aufenthaltes in Deutschland. Das ist das Leben von UNS. Es geht auch um unsere Tabus und Ängste, die wir vermeiden wollen.

Salzwedel was l When Ravi Shekhar at Easter 2007 by the Salzwedel city, he could not believe it: roads and lanes were measured by Indian standards, such as deserted. Only a few people walked through the pedestrian zone. "For me it was a culture shock," says the native of the 12-million-person metropolis of Mumbai artists. At home in his native one could hardly escape the crowds. "There can only be found very difficult a piece of solitude."

During this first encounter with Salzwedel he was thinking about it, to produce in this peaceful place for him as a movie, says the 53-year-old. Only when a friend gave him the idea to apply for a place in Salzwedel residential building, however, took this idea to specific traits. After his application was Shekhar in the spring of this year the award for his project. At the invitation of the house and Salzwedel grantees funded by Christa Maria Meyer-grant from the Arts Foundation of Saxony-Anhalt, the trained photographer now spends six months in the Jeetzestadt.

The film, which turns the Indians are here, but not by Salzwedel, Altmark and as such, even if occurring landscape and people of the region. "It's a movie about me, a kind of self portrait," says the artist. A self-portrait of an Indian city dwellers, just turned in Salzwedel? There are contradictions such as these, would build on the Shekhar with his production.

The film tells about the journey (s) by the artist, the spatial and in a biographical sense. Beginning with scenes from his native city of Varanasi on the Ganges funeral, Shekhar are landscapes, historical events and people who have met him space. Not least of those he met during his stay in Salzwedel and the Altmark.

On display here are some excerpts from the wine festival Salzwedel, Salzwedel of the Peace Race, or concerts in Salzwedel Hanseat. Over about 60 minutes building block by building block an image of the artist's life and his vision created the world, which, the longer the film, becoming richer and more sophisticated.

The aim of the production is there to "disrupt" the often gridlocked world view of people and to expand, says Ravi Shekhar. "It is only through disruptions and changes are possible."

So go to him about the realization that no one stands alone, but always developed in response to external conditions, and other people.

"If you want to know a person really, meet his friends."

An old adage that bring good to the point: "If you want to know a person really, meet his friends," says the 53-year-old. This wisdom is the reason why he, above all let others come to speak in his film. And yet another factory Shekhars wisdom lies at the bottom: "If you want to read books, travel," they say. Break through the old world, travel pictures, will be supplemented and extended. "In India I'm just an artist, here I am suddenly the Indians, and thus representative of my culture," says Shekhar. Through such experiences they would be aware of their own origin and ways of thinking.

One of the most important experience in the life of the Indian Ravi Shekhar was always his first visit to Salzwedel. From experiences like this and its importance for the development of the people is his film.

He can be seen on Sunday evening, 16 September, in Salzwedel movie palace. Ravi Shekhar is already grateful for the time in Salzwedel. "I am very happy that I can make this film here," he says. "Talking to other people is something magical."

Yesterday I was invited with a group of artist friends in Hilmsen, Germany. They were here for an artist residency from Texas. Along with my German friends I reached early. Just after returning from the dinner , I decided to make a small video out of it. And this is here.

Salzwedel- In the middle of no where

First I came to Salzwedel in 2007. I could never imagine that there can be some place so beautiful and silent. I wanted to come and stay here for a while. Now I am here, Staying from last few months.

I am sharing some of my pictures of the I walk, everyday pass through. 

From Molmo Swedan

Malmo, Swedan..!
Julius Nonderson met me during Kala Ghoda Art festival in 2010. He was the boy from swedan, who was traveling in India meeting all Sudharak Olwe's friends. So he visited my apartment in Mira Road in Mumbai too. later my friend Bhagwan Kaushik drove us to huge pagoda temple near esselworld in Borivali.
this was my first visit to that place too.
Now I am here in Malmo writing these words on my blog about him.
when I wrote to me that I will be in Germany for 6 months, he invited me to visit Swedan. what else a greedy traveler wants? even a slight hint of invitation is enough to explore the new destination.
but this was not just a hint.
He traveled to Berlin to meet me and had a plan to treat me with the most exotic travel in my life.
In Berlin we walked in the war memorial park and later visited

 and took a cheapest option to travel to Copenhagen. by bus which costed just €22. Our bus crossed the sea on ferry and filmed this amazing morning from the deck.
we arrived too early to experience the Copenhagen. I had a black coffee sitting on the stairs where a group show of photo-journalistic work was on display.
we took a train for Molmo and crossed the sea again. my camera was constantly working and i was in deep surprise with the journey which I never planned.
walking from train station to this apartment was my first glimpse of swedan...! we walked in a park and beautiful lake listening to birds chirping.
I did not expect what would happen on Oland...!
and really nothing happened....!
we sat in a beautiful house listening to birds and sea and wind and chatted endlessly.
what they call a typical MID-SUMMER
was really very special Indian like me.
there is much more which can not be described.
the connectivity with nature and trust with people is the some of the key factors we all need to learn deeply and keep practicing.
Julius is a student studying nature science. In the summer time he is working as a truck driver in a small store in malmo driving cargo small truck for 8 hours  in a store to earn money for the entire year. he tells me that job is physically challenging as he has to pick up heavey loads from his hand to load on the mini truck and then keep it in different locations. He has taken the job because the money is good. he will work till july 6days a week and then go for the study till the next summer.
Swidish society is highly individualistic in nature. children leave there parents to stay alone and independent as they become 20.
Swidish people prefer doing all the work themselves. not only cooking and cleaning -I mean.
work like house repairing. building painting plumbing too..! they hardly look for help in the day to day life.
 

Emerging artist RAVI SHEKHAR- using video art in a creative way

(India's noted artist and journalist Prakash Bal Joshi interviewed Ravi Shekhar.  )  

 Soft spoken Ravi,sporting salt and pepper beard, represents growing trend in India where creative artist remains anchored in their cultural roots and at the same time try to understand and imbibe contemporary global trends in art field while practicing whatever medium they are comfortable with.

Ravi Shekhar born and brought up at the bank of  River Ganges at Varanasi, also known as Benaras is a sensitive person. Impressions and memories of early childhood at Varanasi, cultural capital of India, could be seen in later part of his work as a cameraman, videographer and off late in his art work in mixed media.
As he narrated his childhood fancies, fears and urge to grow one realizes impact of the historical city must have on him as a creative person. This is a city which over centuries has emerged as a melting pot of divergent sub-cultures of the entire subcontinent where traditional rituals make death and life come together.
His father a school teacher and Sanskrit scholar had tremendous influence on him as he began growing along with his teachers who not only taught subjects in the school but gave in-depth understanding and broader outlook to encompass life. As a student he graduated from Benaras HinduUniversity in 1980s and remained grooved in the rich cultural life of the city which presented numerous visuals to generations of internationally renowned photographers like Raghu Rai & Raghubir Singh. Taking inspiration from these shutterbugs, he developed passion for photography, did a certificate course in photography from the university and even before he finished his course pictures taken by him began appearing in local print media.
His love for camera has remained intact despite several ups and down in his long career which forced him to travel to Mumbai – Eldorado for vast Indian population- and continue his journey with camera. In Mumbai with a camera in hand, it was not very difficult for him to enter the Bollywood and click photographs of glitterati of the cine world. With the advancement of technology, he was quick to shift to video and mastered its technique. It was a great struggle for survival and at the same time an opportunity to interact at various levels with vibrant metropolis like Mumbai. It was difficult, but Ravi somehow managed to maintain a healthy balance between his commercial assignments as well a spare time for his creative work.    
He had great time in capturing art and artist on videos in his own style trying to understand creative passion of an artist and his actual work. Out of this love for art he developed his one minute video project to capture contemporary artists in Mumbai and surrounding area to catch them on real time.

Interaction with artists as a documentary filmmaker, also gave anopportunity to Ravi to bring out his basic skills as an artist. His abstract work in mix-media was presented in the show titled - 'Meaningless'  – exhibited in LegacyArt Gallery in Mumbai. His still photography also earned reputation as he exhibited his own work in shows organized by WWF-INDIA at India Habitat Center,New Delhi.
His work was admired by media and art lovers at a group show at Museum Art Gallery, Kala Ghoda Mumbai, the Artist Camp organized by BendreArt Foundation, Project Dharavi (biggest slum in Asia) at Kala Ghoda Art Festival,Mumbai.
  His short art films also show his sensitivity as an artist. 'BLUR-The Baiju Parthan Show' (2004), 'Messanger of the free zone- Himmat Shah' (2005) ‘Me &Moon’ a short film based on the show of sculptor M K Wanjari, ‘BEING RAGHU RAI’ a long documentary on ace Indian photographer,
 “Regarding the Cone”(5.56 min.) a short film about artist Yashwant Deshmukh’s show at Jahangir Art Gallery are some of the few examples in which he excelled as a visual narrator.
      ‘GHOST TRANSMEMOIR’ (56min.) film on Mumbai as the part of installation art of the contemporary Indian artist Bose Krishnamachari helped him emerged as a leading video artist.The project was later installed in New York, Dubai, Amsterdam, and London and Paris.
   His recent visit to Europe will further help him to hone his skills and further explore his inner creativity.

blogging and facebook

i wanted to write on blog and then post it on facebook.
but from last few months - i am not doing that.
facebook is too easy to use..and for blogging you need to work differently.
now i regret - and wish to come back on blogging-

I will be traveling a lot in next few months.
this could be great if I can write all -some where.
but this has never been possible in the past.
usually, we all start writing in the beginning
then it gets delayed
and we have to move on with life

In last few months
life is changing
as new things happen
new friends come in life
you try learn -
this time
I need to learn German

my language faculties are not sharp
i know this very well
it took me years to learn
writing in English
and the best way to learn this is
writing love mails
;-)
I am working on a video project
 when i told to the officials of the German consulate
that
I am doing a film on myself
they had a question mark on their face.
but then why you need to go to the Germany?
I do not remember-
what was my answer
but they agreed
because of the invitation i had.

I was researching the project
and thinking hard about it.
this is a chance to experiment with my videos
and surly this is going to change
